SDSL History
Formation and Organisation
The South Devon Seniors League was founded in 2019 and the first matches were played in 2021. The concept of the SDSL is to provide a little more competitive edge to matches between golf clubs in South Devon who already play each other mostly on a “friendly” basis.
The 21 clubs in the League are divided into three Pools of five clubs each, and one Pool of six clubs. Each club in the Pool will host a day during the 2026 season where clubs in their Pool will send a team of 6 pairs. The format of the day will be 4 ball better ball Stableford off 85% course handicap.
The scores of the top 5 pairs from each club will be added together and League points will be allocated on the basis of : 1st: 10 points, 2nd: 8 points, 3rd: 6 points, 4th: 4 points, 5th: 2 points. Ties will be resolved by the score of the 6th pair.
At the end of the season, a Finals Day at a neutral course will be held where the top club from each Pool will play in the above format for the overall SDSL Cup. The remaining 17 clubs will play for a Jamboree Trophy on a separate day. For 2025 the Jamboree was held at Stover GC on 19th September and the winners were Churston. The 2025 Finals day at Bigbury GC was won by Stover.
For the 2026 season the Pools have again been mixed on a random basis to enable a variety of courses to be played by each club as the League progresses.
